Awards and Honours

  • An investigation of social networking as a medium for student engagement in tertiary education ($3800, awarded 2010)
The increasing use of social networking technologies is creating a networked world of constant interaction that provides opportunities for every sector of society. For instance, engaging with students is a key strategy for universities, keen to decrease attrition rates and declining attendance. Currently, our knowledge of the online social networking activities of our students is based on anecdotal evidence. The aim of this project is to undertake a survey to establish how the FICT cohort of students engages with online social networking in terms of types of technologies, usage, and potential for extending these into the university environment.
